39 Days Till Christmas: Stocking Stuffers

I didn’t grow up in a household where stockings were stuffed each year as part of the Christmas tradition so when I got married we decided to start our own family tradition. Each year we would stuff a stocking for each other full of inexpensive things and gradually this grew to include any immediate family members who might be sharing the start of Christmas morning with us. We tend to open our stockings first thing and then go to church. Bigger presents are saved for after lunch.

When you look at the countdown to Christmas in the number of days it doesn’t seem so far away. If you are stuck for ideas as to what to give to someone special, perhaps something here might help solve that problem. I always think its nice to be able to give something which has had thought put into the creation process, this is why its so good to connect to the many people around the world who take the handmade pledge each year (only to purchase hand made items as gifts). Buying hand made supports your local small business as well as the many other benefits that come with stopping waste enter our landfill (by purchasing upcycled and recycled items).

Time is going quickly till Christmas. I am yet to get over half my shopping finished and I must admit that Christmas shopping is not a favourite task of mine. I find everything at this time of year to be over commercialised and focussed on the wrong ‘end’ of Christmas. I personally prefer to shop on-line if I can to avoid the rush of the crowd. Perhaps you feel the same way.
