Recently I read an article about setting up your business page on facebook. One thing the article mentioned was making the most of your profile picture. I’ve had this profile picture for the whole time I’ve used facebook for Polyclarific:

This is my standard logo, I’ve used this for Polyclarific from the start and its one of the first things I made when I started with polymer clay. I love it still and it remains my logo.
I changed it for the first time to this:

I liked it and it was nice to have a change. I also thought I had done what had been suggested in ‘making the most’ of my profile pic. Wrong.
I spotted another business’s profile pic the other day, it was 180mm x 60mm! ‘Wow’ I thought, ’so thats what they meant by making the most of it’. I set to making a bigger profile pic right away. I didn’t realise you could do that on facebook, I always thought they had to small and square.
I’m quite limited with resources and knowledge as far as computer software goes but after using GIMP for a couple of hours (and you can see how inexperienced I am by the results after that long) I created this profile pic:

Ahhhh much better! I like it. I’d love to fuzzy up the edges of the photos and be able to do more with the software I have but this was the best I could put together in the time frame I had (while my daughter was sleeping). So, perhaps you have a business page on facebook. I encourage you to make the most of your profile pic too!

The other day I reshot a whole lot of necklaces from Polyclarific and cards from KeLu. I quite like the results and hopefully you do too. The necklaces are part of my 1950s collection. Each ‘image’ on the pendant has been made by using the millefiori caning technique which I mentioned here. It takes many hours to make each cane as each step needs to be carefully planned. You can find all these in Polyclarific here.

The cards were made using a gocco printer .

You can find all these designs in my Etsy store KeLu which is here.
I have a few designs so far but would love to hear your suggestions for your favourite design (which you would like to see made into a card or card set). I’ll be adding a blog competition to choose the next design and the winner will receive a card of their choice and 30% off anything in KeLu (excluding shipping). Look out for that blog post later today!
Thanks!
Amanda

Polyclarific’s new venture is into the world of cake topper making. You can see from the photos I have started to build up a range of available cake toppers.
Children’s Birthday Cake Toppers
I am happy to custom make any topper for you. Maybe your little girl likes rocket ships but would prefer it to be in purple or pink, no problem! Perhaps your son loves trains, I’d be happy to make one for you. If you were after a more masculine castle I can adjust the style for you. I am able to make any number you need in any colour and can colour match if you wanted to send me a swatch of fabric. I am able to add their name to the topper also.

Special Occassion Cake Toppers
I will be putting together a sample range of toppers for special birthdays (21st, 40th etc..) as well as themes more suited to adults such as a handbag, golf set and more. If you have a theme you are after please feel free to ask.
I am also happy to make cake toppers for the celebration of Christmas and Retirement and am able to put names on the topper too.

Cupcake Toppers
I will soon be putting together a range of cupcake toppers for children’s birthday parties. These will be attached to a toothpick (which will be removable so the topper can be reused) and can be custom made with your son or daughter’s name embossed into the clay or even in a basic theme (eg; rainbows, numbers, stars, flowers).
The range of toppers will be priced between $4ea (for the most basic cupcake toppers) up to $120ea (Noah’s ark, castle and anything that takes up to 5 hours to create). Feel free to contact me at polyclarific[at]oddsocks.net or through my Etsy store to discuss a custom order. The toppers shown are samples and are not for sale.

This week I created my first custom cake topper. A friend is having an unbirthday this year with an Alice In Wonderland theme so this is perfect for her cake. This stands 9cm tall and is balanced to stand up on its own. I can always add a base to cake toppers if they won’t stay up due to weight. I am launching into a new venture by collaborating with a wonderful fellow Western Australian Etsy seller called Lillybuds. Liza of Lillybuds makes beautiful wedding bouquets, buttonholes, hair accessories, corsages and fans. She will be offering the option of having a matching cake topper for brides which will be made by yours truely. You can visit her website here: Lillybuds (I am on the front page if you scroll down).
I will also be offering custom cake toppers through my Etsy store. Prices will start at $35 Australian dollars and up, depending on the size and intricacy of the design. If you are interested in a particular design please contact me on polyclarific[at]oddsocks[dot]net. I would prefer to stick to themes rather than designs by other artists from now on (eg: cowboy, space, princess etc).
Here’s a few more angles of the above cake topper;

What do you see? Peeking around the edge of a blade of grass, who lives in there? Can you imagine your kids playing with these in your garden? Maybe you’d love to put these on a birthday cake or just sit them on your desk. These are now available on request. Each mushroom is different and prices start at $12AU for individual mushrooms and $20AU for a set of two ($11US and $20US). Shipping will be a bit more expensive outside of Australia so if you are interested in that I will need to research a price for you. Australian shipping will be around $10.
I am hoping to add to this collection with some other woodland themes starting with some very sweet deer also shown below. These would be gorgeous as cake toppers also or just for little friends to watch you from your shelf. : )
If there are any left they will be available at the Made On The Left markets in July.

Have you ever wondered about what its like to balance a family and a small home business? Perhaps you are in that situation yourself so you already know. For those who don’t I thought I’d elaborate. I’m a stay at home Mum. I have two girls and we do a lot of things together during the week from art to dress-ups to playing outside. I love being a Mum even though its a difficult job with the biggest responsibility, I’d never change it. Like many stay at home Mums with small home businesses I have struggled to balance life between the girls and my own creativity. How much time can I really dedicate to my on-line shops? What sort of focus can I really have? I’ve had to find ways to get around this while maintaining my family as the main focus.
Recently I wrote a post on my other blog in which I shared how I take my photographs. It was entitled ‘Click Click Work, Click Click Kids’, a bit of a photo journalistic way of showing you what its like to split my time. I thought that maybe readers of this blog would enjoy that post so here is the link:
Click Click Work, Click Click Kids
If you feel like leaving a comment on there or on here (I would love to ‘meet’ some of the readers of this blog) it would be wonderful to hear from you.
